It was from the core-group of the YMC that the first brothers of the congregation emerged. This core group evolved into what is now known as the Marian Missionaries of the Holy Cross. The group is composed of priests and brothers who pursue priestly studies while engaged in the apostolate to the youth in the public high schools and the prisoners in the National, Regional and Local Penitentiaries where there is an MMHC community.
The Marian Missionaries of the Holy Cross was recognized in 1990 as a Pious Association by the Most Rev. Camilo D. Gregorio of the Diocese of Bacolod in Negros Occidental. On October 27, 1997, in rites held at the Motherhouse of the congregation in Silay City, the Marian Missionaries of the Holy Cross was established as a religious congregation of Diocesan Right. This Canonical Erection, presided by Bishop Gregorio upon the approval of the Sacred Congregation for Religious and Secular Institutes in the Vatican under the Eminent Prefect, Eduardo Cardinal Martinez Somalo, established the Marian Missionaries of the Holy Cross as a Filipino Religious Congregation of Diocesan Right for priests.
